With most in-person events around the world getting canceled or postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19, TAPPI’s Young Professionals Division Leadership Council decided it couldn’t wait a whole year to connect with other YP’s. Instead, the Leadership Council, led by Division Chair Jaclyn Epstein, planned a series of 60-minute virtual mixers for three consecutive months while many states had shelter-in-place orders in effect.
“It’s important for us, as a division, to provide opportunities for our members to connect and build professional relationships. The YP Division spends a great deal of time and effort putting together networking and other community events for young professionals in our industry. When we found out that most in-person events for the year were canceled or postponed, we quickly pivoted our strategy to plan a mixer using video conferencing software. The Virtual Mixers have been a great way to get to know young professionals across all of the TAPPI Divisions,” said Jaclyn Epstein.
There were originally only two virtual mixers planned, but after the overwhelming interest and positive reviews by attendees of the first event in April, the series became a monthly occurrence. The mixers hosted an average of 30 participants and included activities such as ice breakers, topic discussions, a mixology lesson, and a recipe swap.
The virtual mixers will take a break for the Summer but will resume in the Fall. If you would like to attend the next one, contact Lisa Lockwood.
